Open Doors Through Prayer

Colossians 4:2-4

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.  And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.  Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.”

Just recently, God revealed to me in a new way just how powerful prayer can be.  I was reading Colossians 4:2-4:

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.  And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.  Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.”

In the literal Greek, the word “door” translates to opportunity.  So in this verse, Paul is writing to the Colossians, asking for their prayer, that God would open up a door of opportunity for Paul to preach the “mystery of Christ.”  Paul knew that he was practically incapable of doing anything before God opened a door for him.  I have this picture in my head of Paul trying to preach to the nations, but the door is closed, and the words of truth cannot reach his audience.  But once God opens that door, His Word is free to move among the nations and pierce the hearts of the people.

God has called all of us to different things, some of us to business, some to missions, etc. and sometimes it may feel like it’s not going the way God told you it would go.  Have you asked Him to open a door for you?  Matthew 7:7 says:

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

All we have to do is ask, and God will open the door for us!  Awesome!  I like to think of it as God opening doors into our destiny.  As He opens the doors in front of us, we are able to walk forward into the destiny He has for our lives.
You may already know this, and have asked God to open that door for you, but you still feel that nothing has changed.  The best thing to do is wait.  Wait for Him to open the door, because we can do nothing without Him.  And He is always faithful to His promises.

So go out and start praying for God to open those doors for you, believing that He will.

Think About This…

Here’s another verse on prayer that got me thinking how prayer is like a spiritual battle, and we’re a part of that battle as we pray!  Colossians 4:12 says:

…he is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.”

Today’s Prayer:

Father God, show me Your ways and guide me in Your truth.  Show me the power of my prayers. Open doors for me. Help me be patient to wait for you to open to door once I ask.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
